Immunotherapy targeting esophageal cancer stem cells

Esophageal cancer is one of most common malignancies. Cancer stem cells (CSC) are considered to be resistant to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which might be associated with the recurrence of the tumor after treatment. To find the therapeutic procedures targeting CSCs, the different methods have been used to identify the esophageal CSC-related genes and surface markers. The esophageal CSCs were...

Immunotherapy Targeting Leukemia Stem Cells

Leukemia stem cells (LSCs) are considered to cause treatment failure and disease progression in leukemia patients. Although LSCs are rare, they are a quiescent population and so cannot be targeted by conventional therapies such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and radiotherapy. On the other hand, immunotherapy including hematopoietic stem cell transplantation could target LSCs regardless of c...

Targeting cancer stem cells with ALDH1A1-based immunotherapy

ALDH(bright) cells in human tumor cells lines, xenografts and lesions have been shown to have characteristics of cancer stem cells (CSC). We have shown that these cells are recognized by ALDH1A1-specific CD8(+) T cells in vitro and in vivo. The results support the potential of ALDH1A1-based immunotherapy to target CSC.

Dendritic Cell Immunotherapy, the Next Step in Cancer Treatment

Cancer immunotherapy has gained a lot of interest over the past few years due to the success of immune checkpoint inhibitors in treating cancer (1, 2). Immune checkpoint inhibitors, such as monoclonal antibodies against cytotoxic T-lymphocyte–associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4) and programmed death 1 (PD-1), have been shown to increase survival of patients with advanced cancers (1, 2). These in...
